Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
